API Workshop 27 January 2025

On Monday, the 27th of January 2025, we will organise the KNMI Data Platform API workshop. This day, aimed at anyone using or planning to use KNMI data, you can learn about the APIs the Data Platform has to offer.

Impression API Workshop January 2024

During the day there is also plenty of opportunity to share with us your wishes and desires around KNMI data provisioning and API developments. The day is hands-on and primarily aimed at software developers and researchers using KNMI data.

Workshops

Each workshop will be given twice, unless noted.

Open Data API & Notification Service

The Open Data API can be used to retrieve files from our datasets. In this workshop you will learn how to make the API calls. You will learn how to retrieve a single file, a whole dataset, or specific files based on the filtering parameters. We will also touch upon how to use the different file formats that our datasets are stored in.

The Notification Service can be used to be automatically notified of updates to the files in our datasets. You will learn how to automatically start the retrieval of a file, when a KNMI dataset has been updated.

EDR API

The EDR API allows you to query datasets on specific parameters in a spatio-temporal manner, reducing the need to download entire datasets. In this workshop you will learn how to query the API, from simple to more advanced queries. You will also learn about the CoverageJSON output format, and how to visualise it.

WMS Service

The Web Mapping Service (WMS) can be used to visualise some of our datasets. Our WMS endpoints can be added to different WMS clients as map layer. In this workshop you will learn how to use Open GeoWeb to access our WMS.

This workshop will only be given in the morning session.

Custom data visualization

In this advanced mini workshop you will learn how to set up your own visualization service of potentially large KDP datasets. We will set up a docker stack containing a WMS server (Adaguc) to render the images, and GeoWeb components to interactively show them in the browser.

This workshop will only be given in the afternoon session.

The KDP community & future KDP

Discover the possibilities of the KNMI Data Platform community and discuss your wishes for the future of KDP.

Data Doctors

During the "Consult our Data Doctors" session, you can ask our climate and meteorological experts specific questions about how to use KNMI data to address your meteorological and climate-related inquiries. To enable us to prepare this session, you can already provide a question using the registration form.

Practical information

The day will take place in De Bilt, Utrecht, is free of charge and a lunch will be provided. Workshops will be in English. For participation in a workshop, you will need to bring a laptop.
